Memorial Biography

Charlie Pease, "Sandy Pt. Mayor," age 61 of Warwick, RI, died February 13, 2013 from complications of cancer treatment.  He was born in Yonkers, NY on April 14th, 1951. The family moved to Jamestown, RI in the mid 1950's when his father became captain of the ferry boat between Jamestown and Newport. In 1967, the family moved to Zelienople, PA soon after the death of his mother.

He attended both De La Salle and Rogers High School in Newport and graduated in 1969 from Seneca Valley High in Harmony, PA.  Charlie joined the Air Force in August of '69 (-1976). His training took place in Mississippi where he became an Air Traffic Controller. He served two tours in Da Nang, Vietnam and was also stationed in Panama during his time with the Air Force.

In 1976 he settled back in RI where he later became a lobster fisherman aboard the "Gillian," out of Wickford, for close to 10 years.

In 1989, he started working at TruGreen, where he was employed for nearly 24 years in a variety of capacities from Lawn Specialist to Field Manager.

Charlie was an avid salt water kayak fisherman, and was happy to be on the water reeling in humongous stripers (usually in his pajamas) at any time of night.  He was active with the groups New England Kayak Fishing and YakDawgs.  He was a well-known member within those groups where people knew him best as the "Sandy Pt. Mayor" or simply "The Mayor."

When he wasn't at work or out fishing on the water, he liked to watch fishing shows, Ghost Hunters, Ellen, cooking shows, and wrestling. He also enjoyed gardening, playing Bingo and Keno, and walking his cat Midnight in the yard.

He leaves behind wife, Doreen, and daughter, Maria, both of Warwick, a brother Frederick "Freddie" Pease of San Francisco, CA, sister Christine Monk and brother-in-law Michael of Harmony, PA and Gail Pease Becker of Pascoag, RI and numerous nieces and nephews. Son of the late Frederick G. and Mary J. (Budrock) Pease. Brother of the late Michael Pease and Cheryl Knight.

Services were held at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter on Saturday, March 2nd with military honors. You may view the service at the following link: http://youtu.be/vbZakHeawOs
